English teachers, editors, and other grammar Nazis have no lives, ergo, nothing to blog about, right? WRONG!
Among ourselves, we passionately discuss the inane errors that regularly find their way into print. We enthusiastically debate whether media consumers are oblivious, complacent, or just too lazy to demand accuracy. We “tweet” one another links to glaring grammar gaffes, upload to “flickr” photos of misspelled billboard messages, and post to “facebook” examples of problematic punctuation. We are alternately amused and dismayed by the rampant incompetence of advertising agencies, communications directors, and reputable publishers. We have plenty to say!

In seeing the subject, I thought FOR SURE, this was the cake you would be displaying:

And mangling the person's name? If her name was Joy, a respectable cake decorator would have scrapped off the extra icing rather than trying to scratch it off!
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of the cake my mother had the baker customize for my graduation. It said "Congradulations," and I was never sure whether or not the mistake was intentional.
ReplyDeleteAfter the birth of our first child, my office presented my wife, Julie, and me with a cake labeled: "Congratulations Julie and Miles!"
ReplyDeleteI'm still not sure who Miles was, but that might explain why my kid is 6'2" and blond (I'm neither)
